Quantum Quote: “Escape competition through authenticity.” - Tats Nakagawa

Are you tired of your roof always needing replacement and thinking of ways to prolong its life?

If you have an old or damaged flat roof, chances are you’re exploring all your options to address the problem.

While a roof replacement is a great long-term solution, it’s also an expensive one.

An eco-friendy roof coating can add years to the lifespan of your roof while costing much less than a roof replacement.

If you are looking for an eco-friendly roof coating and repair solution that can help you save money on roofing expenses, lower your energy costs, and reduce your carbon footprint -  this episode is for you.

Tatsuya “Tats” Nakagawa is the Co-Founder and COO of Castagra, a manufacturer of sustainable roof coatings. Castagra’s Ecodur roof coating is used by world-class companies such as General Mills, Tyson Foods, Sysco, the NFL, MLB, and McDonalds. Ecodur was also voted top “Greenvention” by the reality show Dragons’ Den.

In this episode, Tats shares how he got started in manufacturing sustainable coatings and the benefits of using this plant based material to prolong the stability of infrastructures, particularly roofs.

SuperNova #1. “I started to really question what I was promoting. Someone came and said that they wanted to promote this plastic thing. I looked at it and wondered - does the world really need another one of these? I started to raise my awareness on what we are doing and what we want to leave as a legacy.”

SuperNova #2. “Our sustainable green roofing product allows you to just coat over top of an old roof and extend its life. That saves the client money, and it's also better for the environment.”

SuperNova #3. “I love the gold standard of striving for the economic piece to be in line - because then you can approach mass adoption. I'm loving that a lot of these sustainable technologies are getting closer and closer- and some already save you money - even without subsidies. I'm really encouraged by that.”

SuperNova #4. “For anyone that's innovating in this space, you always want to think about execution It's better to come in narrow and focused, and then later expand out to fill that need. It's tough for entrepreneurs, they think big and they want to change the world right away. But you have to think narrow and small to grow faster.”

SuperNova #5. “Inside of each and every one of us, we have this brilliance, this untapped ability to make an impact. My question is: How do we get that out of ourselves? How do we forget about our fear? When I'm at the end of the line, I don't want to regret what I did - and part of that is the impact on the Earth,  what we leave behind, and what we want to achieve while we're still here.”

Worst Clean Energy Moment – “I remember going to tie my shoelaces, and I felt a pain in my stomach. It freaked me out because it hurt.  When I came back from vacation, I went to the doctor and the doctor said - the long and  short of it is that your body is falling apart. I was 252 pounds. I'm 5'1. That's quite overweight.

It gave me a huge wake up call. I asked myself - what have I been doing? I can't play the ignorance card, I know better. It just woke me up. I started eating healthier, or else I'm not gonna be around for my kids.”

Ah-Ha:  “I try to hold myself accountable. And I try to hang around people that will openly call me out if I start going in the wrong direction.”

Best Advice he’s ever received: “Just be yourself and execute.”

Personal Success: “I have a good way of just working into routines and working out of routines. So I'm good with change.”
